Exclusive approach
What is Cognitive Analytical Therapy?
Cognitive analytical therapy (CAT) focuses on the way your thoughts, feelings and behaviours work, where these patterns have originated from (usually childhood). CAT much like integrative therapy brings different ideas and approaches together into one therapy to help you work through your issues.
CAT therapy can vary in length, anything from 4 to 12 weeks and sometimes may last longer.
The principles of Cognitive Analytical Therapy
Underlying principles of CAT
- Building and maintain a trusting relationship, between the therapist and client
- Acknowledge and work through your issues, exploring how they affect your life
- Establishing where the issue stems from
- Understanding your own feelings and emotions as a result of the issues, past and present
- Establishing any unhealthy patterns which you’ve had to cope and replacing them with healthier ones
How do Cognitive Analytical sessions work?
You have control of what’s discussed in your sessions, allowing you space an time to voice your thoughts, alongside working on viewing your issues objectively rather than from a personal viewpoint. Therapists can establish any learnt behaviours and whether these are impacting your life in the present moment, allowing you to challenge these thoughts, beliefs and change negative behaviours to healthier behaviours.
What can Cognitive Analytical therapy help with?
CAT can help with identifying any underlying issues that you bring into therapy, focussing on you and not your issues:
- Anxiety
- Addiction
- Depression
- OCD
- Eating Disorder
- Phobias
- Relationship issues
- Stress
- Self-harm
